Cheryl Bass, Founder New Beginning Outreach Ministry 1999/Chairwoman of the Board, born in Granville County and raised in Person County, built a diverse career rooted in service and entrepreneurship. In Durham, an agent at NC Mutual Life under Howard Clements also managed major events at the Downtown Motor Inn networking with lead professionals and politicians of Durham. Economic development , she contributed to public housing, business initiatives and educational awareness in Durham North Carolina. Her entrepreneurial ventures included childcare academies, boutiques, salons, and consulting services, while her community work alongside Mayor Bill Bell, NAACP. Relocating to Charlotte, Cheryl continued her ministry and missionary work under Pastor John P. Kee, carrying forward her lifelong dedication to faith, families, and underserved communities.
Marci Edwards brings a lifetime of service, dedication, and compassion to our community. With 18 years of combined military experience in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, she embodies resilience and leadership. Along with her military career, Marci devoted 15 years as a social worker in New York and North Carolina, including Durham County, where she worked tirelessly to support families and underserved populations. In honor of her daughter, Faith, Marci founded a nonprofit organization that continues to uplift and empower others. Her academic achievements include graduating with distinction as a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the International Honors Society. Born in New York and relocating to North Carolina in 1992, Marci has spent the last several years residing in Brunswick, Georgia doing ministry and missionary work. Today, we are proud to welcome her as our Veteran Liaison Representative, where her passion for service and advocacy continues to make a lasting impact.

Born in Durham, NC, Waltier Turner showed early leadership—recognized in Who’s Who Among High School Students, participating in UNC Chapel Hill’s Upward Bound program, and founding a youth center in the Hayti community before age 21. Now based in Charlotte, NC, she is a proactive, solutions‑driven Project Manager with over a decade of experience leading cross‑functional teams and delivering complex initiatives across field operations and corporate environments. Waltier currently manages projects at CertaPro Painters, overseeing subcontractors, budgets, and schedules, and previously supported enterprise initiatives at Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Her expertise spans project lifecycle management, administration, entrepreneurship, finance, and accounting, with certifications in SAFe Scrum Master and Business Process Management. Skilled in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies, she leverages tools like Jira, MS Project, and Workday to keep projects aligned with business objectives. Waltier is passionate about continuous improvement, effective change management, and building strong relationships—delivering excellence whether in field operations or enterprise projects.
NaToya Richardson, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a dynamic faith leader, mentor, teacher, transformational coach, and entrepreneur. Her journey, marked by resilience and vision, began with overcoming the challenges of teenage motherhood. Rather than allowing obstacles to define her, NaToya transformed them into stepping stones toward her calling to empower others. As why we welcome her as our Religious Liaison Leader. As the author of The Hidden Treasures In Me (2023), NaToya shares divine inspirations that encourage readers to embrace their value and discover their kingdom purpose. The book has sparked conversations across social platforms, resonating with those seeking encouragement, healing, and direction. Beyond her writing, NaToya’s ministry is rooted in service and empowerment. She has guided countless individuals through mentorship, faith-based coaching, and community outreach, helping them unlock potential and walk boldly in their destiny. Her work reflects a deep commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities through faith, wellness, and vision

Author Poet HipHop Artist Tenal Alston wears many shoes and professionally have been at Duke for 5 years, serving as both a Nursing Assistant and an Advanced Health Unit Coordinator. After completing a Community Health Worker (CHW) certification course at DTCC, she began to better understand the importance of having outreach and resource persons within any given community. Tenal enjoys providing helpful information to those who may not be aware of—or adequately informed of—those things that may help one make better health and lifestyle choices. Advocating for human rights through hip hop spokenWord and advocacy she aligns with our mission totally. She's been a part of our org since 2017 accepting a seat on the board 2023 and staying on for 2026 as our Public Relations/Health Advisory Liaison
We are honored to welcome Brother Eroll Freeman this year as our Islamic Religious Liaison and Male Confidant for Men. Brother Freeman will provide spiritual guidance, faith-based support, and mentorship to the men we serve. His role also includes assisting individuals with reentry concerns, questions, and transitional needs, ensuring they have a trusted resource during their journey forward.
In addition, Brother Freeman will be an active member of our Corrections Team, helping strengthen our outreach, accountability, and restorative support efforts within correctional and reentry environments.
We are grateful for his commitment, leadership, and willingness to serve our community.
